Each April, the Charleston Chamber of Commerce coordinates the Charleston Dogwood and Azalea Festival, a weekend of music, entertainment, crafts, great food, and spring blooms. The Festival also includes a parade, tours of historic homes, a 5K run, a candlelight walk, and the crowning of the Festival Queen.

Charleston residents are very proud of the Charleston High School athletic program, and local basketball and football games are always a good time. The Blue Jays boys basketball team has been state AAA champion several times, including 2012, and the gym is packed nearly every time they play.

Each fall, Charleston High School hosts its annual marching band festival that attracts bands and their supporters from a large area. Before competing on the high school football field, the bands march through city streets and entertain onlookers.
Throughout the year, various churches and service clubs hold their annual feasts. There is the annual Kiwanis Chili Day, the Boy Scouts Beef Stew Day, the annual Royal Feast at St. Henry Catholic School, and several more. Charleston is a town that loves to gather to eat, chat, and have a good time.
