Parks and Recreation

The city is blessed with a wonderful series of parks filled with athletic fields, playground equipment and picnic shelters.

The baseball field at Hillhouse Park is used by Charleston High School and by the Charleston Fighting Squirrels, a Senior Babe Ruth team.   Hequembourg Park is ideal for picnics, watching the ducks, or fishing for the young residents of Charleston.   During the summer, the Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Farmer’s Market at A.D. Simpson Park.
Youth football games at Galemore Park are always a family event.
  • Hillhouse Park and A.D. Simpson Park have baseball and softball fields for all age groups.
  • Rolwing Park has four tennis courts plus picnic shelters and a playground.
  • Hequembourg Park has a beautiful duck pond where children can also fish.
  • Whipple Park has a fish pond for all ages.

There are youth baseball and softball leagues, a youth football league, and a youth basketball program.

Charleston is a beautiful town to walk in and the roads outside of town are very good for bicycling.
